Paste Cleaner

OneNote lists paste flat? Get the nesting back.

Paste your OneNote list below. Bullets, numbering and every indent level are rebuilt into a real list you can paste into Gmail, Notion, Word, Slack, Jira or Confluence.

Why OneNote lists break when you paste them

OneNote doesn't copy lists as standard HTML lists. Each bullet is a separate paragraph carrying an mso-list style, with the bullet character itself embedded as a Symbol-font span and the indent level hidden in a margin value. That's an internal Microsoft format:

Paste it into an app that understands Office markup (Word, Outlook) and it looks fine. Paste it anywhere else and one of two things happens: the app keeps the raw paragraphs — so you get flat lines with stray bullet characters — or it strips everything and you get an unindented wall of text. Nesting is the first casualty, because the level information isn't in the structure at all.

What this tool does with your list

The cleaner reads the level of every item — from the mso-list level marker, or the indent width when that's missing — removes the fake bullet characters, detects whether the list is bulleted or numbered, and rebuilds a real nested list. You then copy it in the format the destination understands: rich text for editors like Gmail and Notion, Markdown with two-space indents for Slack and GitHub, or * / ** wiki markup for Jira Server and Confluence.

Three destinations that need different output

Gmail, Notion, Word, Teams: use Rich — they accept the rebuilt HTML list directly. Slack, GitHub, Obsidian: use Markdown — nesting is expressed as two-space indentation. Jira Server / Data Center and Confluence: use Atlassian — those fields ignore indentation entirely and flatten anything that isn't * item / ** nested item syntax.

Why do my OneNote bullets paste as plain paragraphs?

OneNote marks list items with internal mso-list styles instead of standard list tags. Apps that don't understand Office markup see plain paragraphs. This tool converts them back into real lists before you paste.

Why does nesting disappear?

Indent levels live in those same mso-list styles and margin values, not in the list structure. The cleaner reads the level of every item and rebuilds properly nested lists.

How do I paste a nested list into Jira or Confluence?

Use the Atlassian mode — wiki-markup fields ignore indentation and need * / ** prefixes instead.

Does my content get uploaded?

No. The cleaning runs entirely in your browser; there is no server and nothing is stored.
